Alex Meda (she/her)
Alexandra Meda (she/Ella) is a Director and Cultural Strategist known for her groundbreaking work in collaborative artistry and ensemble praxis. With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and amplifying marginalized voices, she creates transformative works through collective practices.
As a devised theatre-maker, Meda fosters empowering spaces that center Women of Color, fostering vibrant collaborations with communities, performers, scholars, designers, thinkers, and artists. Her boundary-pushing approach challenges societal norms, redefining perceptions of women's bodies. As Artistic Director of Studio Luna (formerly Teatro Luna founded in 2000), Meda leads an influential Latinx and Women of Color artistic collective, captivating audiences globally with original performances. Studio Luna stands at the forefront of creative collaboration and entrepreneurship, storytelling, new play development, and devised theatre-making.
She serves as the Impact Director for The National New Play Network, Co-Facilitator of Phase 2 of the Bridge Ensemble, and the NETneXT project for The Network of Ensemble Theatres. She is a strategic facilitator and mediator through her firm, Culture Change Lab, guiding organizations through transformative change processes focusing on anti-racist initiatives and anti-oppression curricula.
Meda has made significant contributions to various organizations in the arts and culture field, including serving as an executive committee member of the BIPOC Storytelling Fund, an advisory member of the Theatre Communications Group's Accountability For Abundance National Initiative, TCG's THRIVE re-granting program, and as a facilitation team member of Penumbra Theatre's Center for Racial Healing. She is a proud alumnus of the ArtEquity facilitator training; she also actively participates as a committee member of The National Non-Profit Theatres Coalition and contributes to the National Coalition of BITOC Networks. She served as a steering committee member of the Latinx Theatre Commons from 2013 to 2020.
She has completed prestigious leadership programs, including the Kennedy Center Leadership Midwest (2009-2011), American Express Leadership Training (2014), and the NALAC Leadership Institute (2015). In 2015, she was recognized as a Mellon Foundation Artistic Leadership Fellow at the LATC. In 2019, she participated in the National Directing Devised Training Institute at Pangea World Theatre & Art 2 Action, mentored by the esteemed Diane Rodriguez.
